Operating Big Data-based Targeted Marketing Platform, TargetingGates™

Wider Planet is operating Korea’s largest targeted marketing platform called TargetingGates™, based on big data and machine learning algorithms. The company records 25 million cookies per day and 60 billion page views a month and offers customer targeting service (data management platform, DMP) and optimized advertising service (demand side platform, DSP).

In addition to developing and operating the platforms, the company is also dedicated to global digital marketing, attested by the fact that it has signed an MOU on ad development with the world’s largest mobile ad network, InMobi, and ad service agreements with Alibaba and Baidu in China.

Background

02

Seeking Measures to Elevate Service Quality While Maintaining Its Existing Infrastructure

Wider Planet collects over 250TB of big data on a daily basis to analyze user behavior and uses the results to provide sophisticated target-based global advertising services. In the past, data reliability was maintained through the data center, but it is now complementing this with the AWS Cloud to flexibly operate services with inconsistent traffic.

Speed was the most crucial factor when it came to Wider Planet’s infrastructure. Above all, it was essential to maintain the fast speed of data processing and reduce the network latency in relation to global traffic.

For this purpose, the company considered cloud migration, but migrating the countless servers to a cloud platform seemed burdensome. Accordingly, Wider Planet decided to find a way to improve its service quality, while maintaining its existing infrastructure.

What did KINX do?

Proposal on International Transit and CloudHub® Based on Professional Consulting

KINX, with abundant hybrid cloud configuration experience, conducted an in-depth analysis of the infrastructure of Wider Planet and provided professional consulting. Noting that Wider Planet was using our colocation service, we proposed a solution that would address the issues of both data stability and infrastructure resilience. CloudHub allowed Wider Planet to maintain stable overseas network speeds using international transit.

High Customer Satisfaction Achieved by Focusing on Service Enhancement

Following a review, Wider Planet decided to use our services, based on our extensive hybrid cloud references and multiple international lines. Wider Planet was able to connect the data center and AWS over the shortest distance possible through CloudHub. This allowed the company to ensure optimized latency for hybrid environments. While most of the data were reliably handled by the physical servers, AWS was used for outbound traffic to maximize infrastructure efficiency. As a result, the infrastructure costs incurred by large data transfers were also significantly reduced.

At the same time, KINXhelped Wider Planet deploy its global network at a reasonable price. Thanks to increasing stability of overseas services, Wider Planet received positive feedback and satisfaction from its customers.
